The lengths are perfect for hand-stitchers. Undo the skein, pull out a thread and cut it in half. This is the advised length for stitching by hand - not so long that the length will thin during stitching, and just long enough to enable maximum flow of arm movement. Retwist into a skein when you have finished, or plait the length to keep them tidy. You can easily pull out a single thread if you do that.
